Website
A web site, or website, is a set of related web pages usually common to an Internet domain or subdomain, accessible through a web browser. A website can be used for a variety of purposes, including to inform, entertain, sell products or services, or connect people; simplifying, it can be static (with content that does not change without the intervention of a webmaster) or dynamic (with content that can change in response to user interaction or other factors), and can consist of a single page up to complex web applications.
The history of websites begins in 1991, when physicist Tim Berners-Lee published the world’s first website while working at CERN, marking the beginning of the World Wide Web as a public platform. The name “website” is derived from the union of the words “web,” referring to the global information network that makes up the World Wide Web, and “site,” indicating a place or location.
As web technologies have evolved and Internet use has increased, websites have become an essential component of daily life and a key medium for global communication and information exchange.
