A permalink is a URL that points to a specific web page or blog post and is intended to be static, stable, and unchanged over time. The term “permalink” is a contraction of “permanent link.”

In the context of SEO and digital marketing, link and permalink are two related terms but with distinct meanings.

A link or hyperlink is a hypertext reference that can be clicked to move from one web page to another. Links can be internal (linking pages within the same website) or external (linking to pages on a different website).

A permalink, on the other hand, is a specific type of link that points to a specific web page and that, ideally, should remain constant to allow lasting access to the specific content of that web page. Permalinks are commonly used in CMSs such as WordPress to provide a permanent address for blog posts, articles, pages or other types of content. They are often human-readable and can contain keywords related to the content of the page.

In summary, a permalink is a permanent web address that points to a specific web page or content, while a link is a clickable element that allows users to navigate between web pages or resources. Permalinks are used to provide stable and persistent URLs for specific content, while hyperlinks are used to create connections and allow navigation within and between web pages.
