LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing)
LSI, or Latent Semantic Indexing, is a method used by search engines to better understand the content of a web page.
It is basically a natural language technique that analyzes the relationships between a set of documents and terms in them, producing a set of related concepts. LSI thus considers not only direct keywords, but also related words and phrases that might be present. For example, a page about “apple” might include words such as “cake,” “cooking,” or “recipe,” which help clarify the context, indicating that it is about cooking with apples rather than Apple technology.
For years it was thought that the use of LSI keywords could help improve a page’s relevance and authority, potentially improving its ranking in search results, but Google has repeatedly “debunked” this myth, specifying that they have no SEO effect.
