Link

A link, from the original hyperlink, is a clickable reference in a digital document that leads to another part of the same document or to another document altogether.

Links are a crucial part of how the Web works, because they are the primary means by which users (and search engines themselves) navigate between pages online.

Simplifying, links can be internal (when they link to pages on the same Web site) or external (when they link to pages on different Web sites).

Links are also critical for SEO, both because they serve crawlers to understand the structure and relative importance of web pages and because they can transfer authority between pages (in the form of backlinks).
