Google Quality Raters

Google quality raters are external evaluators, often hired through agencies or networks of contracting companies, who are tasked with assessing the quality of search results provided by the search engine.

These raters use Google’s search quality guidelines, a detailed document that defines what Google considers to be a high-quality result, to review and evaluate web pages and provide feedback on their relevance and usefulness with respect to given search queries.

It is at least since 2005 that Google launched the quality raters program, and according to figures provided by the U.S. giant, there are currently about 16 thousand quality raters active worldwide.

It has been repeatedly reiterated and made official that the quality raters’ evaluations do not directly influence the ranking of search results; nevertheless, their feedback is used to improve Google’s algorithms and ensure that the results provided to users are as relevant and high quality as possible.
