301 (redirect)

A 301 redirect is a type of permanent redirection from one URL to another.

This HTTP status code indicates that a page has been permanently moved to a new address and that all the ranking power and history of the original URL should be transferred to the new URL.

301 redirects are commonly used when a website has been revamped with new URLs, when pages are merged, or when moving to a new domain.

They are essential for maintaining the SEO equity of a page, as search engines transfer most of the link value of the original URL to the new URL. They also help ensure a good user experience by redirecting visitors who may have saved or clicked on an old link.
